On 12 & 13 November, Kirill Gerstein performs Ravel’s Left Hand Piano Concerto with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and conductor Michael Schønwandt.
On 12 November, Gerstein will perform at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, and then at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 13 November. The latter will be broadcast on the RSNO website.
Of Gerstein’s rendition of the same concerto performed with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in October, one review remarked, “Gerstein [brought] to its compensatory thicker textures a fullness of tone and a spectacular command of the whole range of the keyboard. This was one performance where I actually did wish I could see the soloist’s hand, with so much muscle-memory emerging from just five digits. Here we had bluesy jazziness and a scary march-past, and two cadenzas evincing admiration of Gerstein’s technique, certainly, but also oozing with musicality.”
